Educational Support



1.                   Grade Head and Class Supervisor

  • Each class supervisor meets with each learner in his/her class at least once a term to monitor academic progress and emotional well-being and to refer the learner to the relevant specialist when required.
  • Grade heads meet with each class supervisor once every two weeks to monitor the above process and to discuss areas of concern.
  • Grade heads report to the principal once every two weeks.

 

2.                   Counselling Department

  • Counsellors meet with grade heads and class supervisors once every two weeks to discuss learners with problems and to advise them on the best ways to deal with these.
  • Counsellors meet weekly to discuss learners referred to them, and to advise each other on dealing with issues which have arisen.
  • Counsellors report to the principal every two weeks.

 

3.                   Academic Support Department

  • Academic support teachers make contact with learners who need their input in order to set up times for such interventions.
  • Academic support teachers meet with other members of the learning team (counsellors and SENCO) once a week to discuss learners who need help.
  • Academic support teachers report to the principal once every two weeks.

 

4.                   Tutorial System

  • This is divided into:

(a)     Tutorials in specific subjects scheduled at a set time each week.    These are organised per grade by the subject heads.

(b)     Tutorials requested by learners on a one-to-one basis to deal with a particular section of the syllabus in a particular subject.

All teachers are required to make themselves available for these requested tutorials at a time that is convenient to the teacher and the learner.
