Last Sunday evening, the results of the Tournament of Minds were released. This year, Weizmann Primary fielded three teams from Grade 6. Two teams earned Honours in their respective categories, while the third team won the Language Literature Category in the Primary School Division.
Tournament of Minds (TOM) is an educational competition that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Multiple schools around the country participate in this event, which features two types of challenges: a long-term challenge and a short-term challenge.
For the long-term challenge, each team chooses a topic from one of four disciplines: STEM, Social Sciences, Language Literature, or the Arts. These challenges are to be completed within a set time frame and are open-ended, requiring innovative solutions. This encourages pupils to think outside the box. The teams then presented their final solutions as dramatic performances, which were recorded and judged virtually this year.
The short-term challenges were administered last Wednesday through online meetings with external judges. In these challenges, teams are given four minutes to discuss a solution and one minute to present their ideas. Below are our participants, well done to them all!
