Herzlia Gan Aviv Pre-Primary

Shaping self-confident, kind children with big hearts and big dreams.

About Herzlia Gan Aviv
Pre-Primary

Herzlia Gan Aviv Pre-Primary School.

When arriving at Herzlia Gan Aviv Pre-Primary, you’d never expect the wonderland hiding behind our door. You’ll be met by happy children playing in our vast playground with a bike track, play zones, soccer field, vegetable garden and so much more. This magical Jewish Pre-Primary School, run by exceptional teachers, is where all children are loved, supported and made secure in their ability and belief to reach their potential. Each child is met where they are, both in and out the classroom, in a nurturing, inclusive and encouraging environment.

The Space

Set on the slopes of Table Mountain, Vredehoek, Herzlia Gan Aviv Pre-Primary is a central, city oasis, where beautiful gardens with shady trees and multiple play areas offer the space to expand our pupils’ minds and engage their senses. Children can explore, play, learn and connect, both outside and within our large, welcoming and well-equipped classrooms, all designed to facilitate appropriate learning for children from 18 months to Grade R.

The Team

Our knowledgeable team take their role in shaping pupil development very seriously and are committed to having a positive impact on the lives of the children they work with each day. They work together to create a safe and loving space, where children are nurtured and their development is facilitated through play, in a carefully organised, multisensory and stimulating learning environment. Our teachers are patient, creative, flexible, empathetic, passionate, and are always looking for innovative ways to help their children learn and grow.

Academics

We’re committed to high-quality, early childhood education focusing on experiential, play-based learning and social-emotional development, to promote creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving skills. We believe in early intervention and have a deep understanding that children are unique individuals who learn at their own pace and deserve every opportunity to meet their true potential. Each phase is carefully considered with indoor and outdoor tools designed to facilitate appropriate learning from 16 months to 6 years. In addition to our exceptional class teachers, roaming teachers visit weekly to offer Jewish Life and Learning, Hebrew, Music, Xhosa, Playball, Living Maths and Chess.

Extra Murals

Our extra murals give children a wide variety of choices to capture their unique talents and interests in creativity, sport, art, and science. Playball, chess, Living Maths and Music & Movement are included in your school fees to enhance your child’s development, but the following extra murals are also available: Karate, Ballet, Yoganamics, Tumbling Tigers, Clamber Club, Hip Hop, Grassboots Soccer, Clay, Kindermusiek and Experi-Buddies.

Many younger children nap from 12h00 – 14h00 and can join in afterwards. Aftercare is until 15h00, inclusive in school fees, however we offer aftercare until 17h00 for a nominal fee.

Jewish Life & Learning

As a faith-based Jewish Pre-Primary School, we aim to impart a deep respect and connection to the values of Judaism. Our JLL offering creates an experiential, lived connection to our Jewish community and heritage, to self and others. By engaging with the festivals, culture, daily rituals and practices, all experienced in a sensory way through the magic of storytelling and song, our children learn Jewish values, Jewish culture and experience, and Menschlichkeit.

Pupil Support

To enhance the all-round development of each child, we’ve created a supportive and inclusive learning environment that considers their unique needs. Our Specialist Learning Team, led by the Principal, offers a full range of support services through our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Counsellor. Parent engagement and early identification and intervention is key to working with young children and supporting their growth and development, so teachers focus on small groups to extend or develop necessary skills.

Karen Kaimowitz, Principal
Herzlia Gan Aviv Pre-Primary

Meet Principal Karen Kaimowitz

As a Herzlia Alumna and parent, working here is like coming home. The values and principles that Herzlia stands for are deeply rooted in me and my family and makes my work a privilege. Being part of this special school and educating our community’s children, offers meaning that you can find nowhere else. My passion is, and always has been, in early childhood development and creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating Jewish environment for children to learn and grow. The meaningful connections we foster between pupils, teachers and parents, are a testament to the collaborative environment we strive for. Coffee mornings, picnics, fun days, and more, help us develop a strong sense of community, build relationships, and give us the insight we need to evolve to the changing needs of children and their families. Every day is an opportunity to empower young children with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to be a mensch and succeed in further learning and in life. What could be more important? What could give me more joy? Absolutely nothing.
