When we stand at the Shabbat table and listen to our children and grandchildren sing 'Shalom Alechem'; when we sit at the seder and they sing and read in fluent Hebrew – we know that we chose the right path for our offspring by giving them a Herzlia education that allowed them to discover their Jewish identity and to be proud of being Jewish.
My time at Herzlia were good, beneficial and exciting years. The school supported me and helped me, a timid kid from Parow, believe in myself. I developed a level of self-confidence that resulted in me taking on leadership roles in the professional sphere and in the Jewish and broader Cape Town community.
It’s been a privilege serving as PTA and UHS Chairman, and now as Chair of the Board of Trustees, where I work with a passionate team whose commitment to Jewish education knows no bounds. Herzlia alumni are found in every corner of the globe and the school’s values permeate their societies, drawing them to each other and their alma mater. As the school song says, ‘We know who we are,’ and we always have our school in our hearts.
