On Wednesday, 21 May, United Herzlia Schools, in partnership with the Eric Samson Legacy Fund, hosted a meaningful Lag BaOmer event in honour of Zichron Menachem. an Israeli organisation that supports children with cancer and their families.
Rooted in the Jewish value of Tiferet (תפארת), beauty that arises from harmony, compassion, and strength, this initiative saw pupils and community members donate their hair as an act of kindness, empathy and hope. Hair, often tied to identity and confidence, became something sacred when given with such intention and heart.
A professional team of hairdressers generously offered their time to ensure each donation was carried out with dignity and care. In appreciation, each donor received a gift bag, a small gesture to honour the impact of their mitzvah.
This special event reflected Herzlia’s deep commitment to menschlichkeit, one of the school’s guiding pillars. It was a living example of chesed (kindness), achrayut (responsibility), and kehillah (community), showing how the values we teach are brought to life through meaningful action.
May the mitzvah we shared bring comfort, strength, and healing to the children of Zichron Menachem. And may we carry this spirit of unity and compassion into everything we do, building a world of true Tiferet, where beauty is defined by the love we give away.
