Herzlia is proud to celebrate a further standout achievement from our Class of 2025 Matric Art cohort. A mixed-media artwork by Leah Rodenacker has been selected for exhibition at the prestigious Western Cape Premier’s National Senior Certificate (NSC) Awards ceremony, which honours the top achievers of the year.
Leah’s work is a mixed-media piece combining paint and collage, developed thoughtfully over several months during her Matric year. It is both personal and expansive in its reach and we are excited to share it with the broader Cape Town community as a powerful reflection of the creativity nurtured at Herzlia.
Below is Leah’s own reflection on the work, written for her end-of-year exhibition:
“My work serves as a love letter to the people close to my heart. My self-portrait collage was created with love for my Aunts and Grandparents as we shared a meal. The image was taken and directed by my artist Aunties, who encouraged my love of and infused my life with art. I am a richer person for it. My use of fabric ties the work to domestic life, in keeping with my themes of love and family, and similarly celebrates the materials we surround ourselves with, to which we tend to pay little reverence.”
Mazaltov to Leah on this well-deserved recognition. We look forward to seeing her work celebrated on this distinguished provincial stage and to following her creative journey ahead.
