Two Herzlia Matric pupils have achieved an exceptional milestone: Michael Minitzer and Halo Gibson have been selected by the Western Cape Education Department as part of just 42 pupils across the Western Cape invited to exhibit in the 2026 Face of Art & Design Matric Exhibition. This prestigious annual showcase, hosted by the Western Cape Education Department and the Cape Town Creative Academy (CTCA), celebrates the most imaginative, skilled and risk-taking work produced by Grade 12 Visual Arts and Design learners.
Michael and Halo’s artworks were selected for their creativity, strong narrative voice and willingness to push artistic boundaries, qualities that reflect not only individual talent but also the depth of teaching, encouragement and critical thinking nurtured at Herzlia. Beyond the honour of selection, the exhibition places both pupils in the running for bursaries to study at CTCA in 2026.
The exhibition opens on 7 January 2026 at 10h00 at the Cape Town Creative Academy. It promises to be a celebration not only of the Class of 2025, but of emerging young creatives shaping new conversations in design, storytelling and visual culture. Both pupils have been invited to submit their final PLACE practical examination work and accompanying sourcebooks, which stood out for their expressive quality and thoughtful interpretation of the brief.
We are immensely proud of Halo and Michael, for their dedication, curiosity and courage to experiment reflect the best of Herzlia’s creative spirit. We look forward to celebrating with them at the opening in January.
