Herzlia Pupils shine at the Cape Town Science Expo

Herzlia is proud to celebrate the incredible achievements of our High School pupils at the Cape Town Regional Science Expo, one of the largest and most prestigious science competitions in the world.

This year’s Expo, hosted at UCT, brought together over 240 projects from schools across the city, representing diverse categories from engineering to life sciences. Herzlia entered 18 projects, and our pupils walked away with an outstanding collection of awards, medals, and special recognitions.

Special mention and mazaltov to Aimee Levy (pictured above) on winning Best Junior Project at the Cape Town Science Expo. Her brilliant project earned her a laptop prize and an invitation to represent Herzlia at the International Science Fair in Johannesburg later this year!

The Cape Town Regional Expo is more than a competition; it is the gateway to the International Science Fair in Johannesburg later this year, with the possibility of progressing to the global stage. Prizes include laptops, bursaries, and invitations to compete among the world’s top young scientists.

Herzlia’s Standout Achievements:

  • Best Junior Project (Laptop Prize): Aimee Levy
  • Royal Society of Chemistry Junior Award: Leah Roytowski & Shayla Goott
  • ISF Invitation (International Science Fair, Johannesburg): Aimee Levy
  • Multiple Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals across categories
  • Several Best in Category recognitions

Reflecting on the results, Sally Bodington, Subject Head: Life Sciences, shared:

“This year marked my thirteenth time accompanying Herzlia pupils from our internal Science Expo to the Regional Expo. It was with immense pride that I watched our pupils confidently interview, present their research, and walk away with so many well-deserved awards. Herzlia has always been a strong contender on the Expo stage, and, once again, our pupils have proudly made their mark. It is equally important to recognise the teachers whose commitment made this achievement possible. Our dynamic, dedicated, and passionate team guided pupils every step of the way from initial research planning, to testing, to upgrading projects for the regional standard. This success is a powerful reminder: when preparation meets opportunity, excellence follows.”
