Science, curiosity and a lot of hard work came together in a big way for Herzlia High School at this year’s Eskom Expo Cape Town Regional Science Fair.
Our young scientists returned from two days of serious competition with an incredible collection of awards and plenty for us to celebrate.
Held at the University of Cape Town Sports Centre on 12 and 13 August 2026, the fair brought together 333 pupils and 235 projects from across the region, spanning 13 different categories. Reaching this stage is no small achievement either. Pupils spend months developing, testing and refining their ideas through workshops and District Expos before making it to the regional competition.
Herzlia walked away with an impressive collection of awards, including:
- Best Female
- Royal Society of Chemistry Award
- Best in Category (Senior): Biomedical and Medical Sciences
- Kevin Rochford Award
- Rhodes University Bursary covering first-year tuition fees
- Best in Category (Senior): Agricultural Sciences
- Best in Category (Senior): Environmental Studies
- Best in Category (Junior): Chemistry and Biochemistry
What makes us especially proud isn’t only the awards. It’s what happens long before anyone steps onto a podium.
It’s the questions asked, the experiments that don’t quite work the first time, the ideas that get changed and changed again, and the teachers and mentors who keep encouraging our pupils to dig a little deeper.
That is what science and learning at Herzlia is all about. Not simply knowing the right answer, but being curious enough to ask the question in the first place and determined enough to keep going until you find out.
A huge Mazaltov to all our Herzlia scientists who took part and represented our school with such distinction.
We can’t wait to see what you discover next.
