World Entrepreneurs Day is celebrated on August 21st every year. This day is all about celebrating the spirit of entrepreneurship and the important role entrepreneurs play in driving innovation, creating jobs, and fostering economic growth.
This year, World Entrepreneurship Day, coincided with the annual Grade 7 Yom Shouk/Market Day. A day when Herzlia High School celebrates the spirit of entrepreneurship and the roles that entrepreneurs play in our society.
The culmination of 6 weeks of work is mainly conducted in EMS (Economic Management Sciences) class where pupils are taught the basics of entrepreneurship and then encouraged to apply their learnings to their own small businesses.
While PBL (project-based learning) has become quite popular in recent years, Market Day is, at least at Herzlia, one of the original examples of project-based or experiential learning.
From a theoretical point of view, pupils need to conduct market research, prepare business plans, prepare pricing strategies that align with their costing and finally draw up financial statements to measure their success (or lack thereof).
While we await final figures, the projected total turnover is expected to be an average turnover of about R1000 per stall for the 50 minutes of trade!
Well done to the Grade 7 pupils for doing so well and showing that the spirit of entrepreneurship is alive and well at Herzlia.
