Earlier this week, Herzlia High School pupils were introduced to something new in school life… our first-ever mascot, inspired by Israel’s national bird the Hoopoe and brought to life from a pupil-led idea.
The concept was originally proposed by the outgoing Student Leadership Council, as part of their vision to continue building a strong sense of connection, pride, shared experience and ruach across the schools. That idea has now taken shape as a mascot that will help to create moments that bring pupils together.
The Hoopoe is a distinctive and recognisable bird, known for its crown of feathers and confident presence. As a symbol, it reflects qualities that resonate strongly within Herzlia: individuality, pride and a sense of belonging within a wider community.
As part of the introduction, Herzlia High School pupils have now been invited to take part in the next step of the process, giving the mascot a name. This is intentionally being kept as a pupil-led moment. If the mascot is to represent the school, it is fitting that its name comes from the pupils themselves.
Pupils are invited to submit a suggested name, along with a short explanation of its meaning. Submissions are open from Thursday, 23 April and will close on Wednesday, 29 April at 12h00.
