For 84 years, Herzlia has been more than a school—it’s been a home for learning, growth, and connection. This year, we say goodbye to four incredible members of our team who have dedicated decades to shaping the lives of our pupils and building the community we’re so proud of today. Starting as teachers and rising into leadership, they’ve inspired countless people. It’s hard to imagine Herzlia without them, but we’re so excited to celebrate everything they’ve achieved and wish them all the best in the next part of their journey.

GEOFF COHEN: 1982 – 2024: 42 Years of Visionary Leadership

With a tenure spanning over four decades, Geoff Cohen’s connection to Herzlia is nothing short of extraordinary—83% of his life has been intertwined with our school! From a young sports teacher to his impactful roles as Principal, Director of Education and Director of Jewish Identity and Community, Geoff has shaped Herzlia’s culture, mission, and values. His unwavering passion for education and mentorship has inspired generations of pupils and colleagues alike. As Geoff transitions into retirement, his new role as Chair of the Alumni Association and Herzlia Ambassador ensures his wisdom and spirit remain part of the Herzlia story.

MARK HELFRICH: 1989 – 2024: 35 Years of Inspiring Excellence

Mark Helfrich’s Herzlia journey began as a teacher at Highlands Primary, and over 35 years, his influence grew to touch nearly every corner of the school. From shaping curriculum development across three primary schools to coaching extracurricular teams, Mark’s dedication and innovative spirit enriched Herzlia’s academic and cultural life. As an advocate for staff development, he ensured Herzlia’s educators remained leaders in their field. Mark’s legacy will continue to inspire excellence in teaching and learning for years to come. JOS HORWITZ: 1999 – 2024: 25 Years of Building Bright Beginnings

Jos Horwitz’s career at Herzlia began with the historic 2000 merger with the Hebrew Pre-Primary Association, marking a new era in early childhood education. Over the next 25 years, Jos became a cornerstone of Herzlia’s pre-primary phase, mentoring staff and inspiring children with her boundless dedication and passion. A leader in her field, Jos’s influence extended far beyond our school, shaping practices across the Western Cape and nationally. Thank you, Jos, for nurturing countless young minds and leaving a legacy of love and learning.

DI DOS SANTOS: 1994 – 2024: 30 Years of Passionate Commitment

For three decades, Di Dos Santos has embraced challenges with energy and heart. From teaching Typing and Business Studies to pioneering CAT and Life Orientation, Di has been a part of  Herzlia’s academic evolution. Beyond her teaching, Di’s unique style and creativity brought staff and pupils together, fostering a strong sense of community in the many matric dances she co-organised. Thank you, Di, for everything you’ve done to enrich Herzlia.

These extraordinary individuals have given a combined 132 years of service to Herzlia, shaping the lives of countless pupils and colleagues. As they embark on their well-deserved retirements, their contributions will continue to inspire the next generation of Herzlia leaders.
