Herzlia High School

Preparing pupils for life’s beautiful challenges and opportunities.

About Herzlia High School

About Herzlia High School.

At Herzlia High School, we’re so proud of the diversity of talents and strengths that pass through our doors each day. As a top performing school in South Africa, we see each pupil as an individual, meet them where they are, support them through this integral phase of life, and help prepare them for the world. By creating, maintaining and nurturing relationships between teachers, pupils and parents, together we ensure that each pupil gets the support and encouragement that makes their High School experience engaging and inspiring.

The Space

On the foot of spectacular Table Mountain in Vredehoek, Cape Town, Herzlia High School has a view that’s unmatched. Over and above classroom facilities that support a robust education, the campus is a place where pupils can nurture meaningful friendships, interests and experiences. The grounds are designed to create opportunities for learning and connection, whether as part of the curriculum, sports or during down-time. Upgrades are constantly on the go to make sure that our facilities remain current. Whether your child finds their purpose in the classroom, media centre, Esports lab, Innovation or Aquatics Centre, on the skateboard ramp, gym, golf putting range, Fress Canteen, or all of the above – their High School experience will offer a healthy balance that’s rich in meaning.

The Team

Our teachers know that the teenage years are a deeply complex and incredibly important time in one’s life. Their role, as they walk the High School road with your child, is to support them to success. They do this by having your child’s academic, emotional and social development in mind at all times. Thanks to our optimal teacher-to-pupil ratio, our teachers really get involved and give our pupils individual attention, support, encouragement and care. Our teachers embrace cutting-edge technology and are offered upskilling courses and training workshops to continue their own growth and development.

Academics

We take the concept of “teach a child according to his way” very seriously. Over the years, our teachers have worked tirelessly to create a space where each pupil can reach their potential. And this hard work has paid off. Not only do our students enter the world prepared for the challenges and opportunities of life, we’ve also established a reputation as one of the leading schools in the country with phenomenal matric results. Our subjects cater to the interests of our pupils. From Life Science to Drama, Physics, Computers, Technology, Consumer Studies, Art, Music, Accounting, Tourism, History, Hebrew, Jewish Life & Learning, Beit Midrash and more, including FS Maths and English – our pupils can create a path that suits their interests and goals. Our network extends to tertiary institutions locally and internationally, opening doors to those who want to study further.

Extra Murals

Our focus on the whole child means that we’re serious about their education and we want them to feel fulfilled, engaged and inspired outside the classroom. Our extensive extra-curricular programme covers many interests, and when new interests are piqued, so are we! Water polo, swimming, surfing, trail running, mountain biking, ESTEAM and Esport, cricket, netball, chess, soccer, basketball, golf, tennis and table tennis are all available to our pupils through our own staff and outsourced professionals. We also host global experts and guest speakers on a variety of topics, have a debating team, take part in Olympiads, national and international extension competitions, and cultural competitions and showcase events.

Jewish Life & Learning

Our inspiring Jewish education instils a strong sense of connection to last a lifetime. This is achieved through a formal curriculum and experiential learning opportunities, designed to engage and excite pupils about their heritage via immersive learning, creative workshops, and innovative tech. Having multiple avenues of learning means pupils can develop a connection to Judaism that they find meaningful. We encourage them to connect with their heritage and community, explore and express their identity, and to understand Jewish values, traditions, and beliefs. Our experiential programme includes Tefillah, Shabbat and Chagim experiences, guest speakers, Shabbatonim, local and international Jewish camps, and Chessed and Torah study groups for those who want a bit more. The Israel Education team runs programmes for Israel Days and Israel education and advocacy workshops.

Pupil Support

To prepare pupils for the world and to support them in reaching their potential, we focus on the individual child at all times. Our optimal teacher-to-pupil ratio lets teachers give pupils individual attention and allows time for subject extension. The Tutorial Programme helps pupils get to grips with subject matter, whether it’s those who need additional support or those who want to shift from a B to an A. We also have an award-winning vocational programme for pupils who choose an alternative education stream, other than the conventional matric. To care for your child’s mental, emotional and social development and ensure the best possible learning environment, our specialist learning and psychological support team includes our Principal, Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), and a team of psychologists, counsellors, education support teachers and facilitators.
